The Prison State Us vs China

[Applause]
Hello
i'm Nathan Rich AKA Hotpot king

i know some of
you out there young but not me hell i
feel like i've lived ten lifetimes
already i've been a lover a liar a nerd
a punk I've been a loser and a poet I've
dreamt the wildest dreams and I've lived
in nightmares I've slept in dumpsters
and I've been a millionaire I've been
the most honest man in the world and
someone lost in the depths of philosophy
I've been petty and I've been generous
when I had no reason to be I even spent
a few weeks of jail my charges were
deferred which means I'm not to convict
people with low IQs get swept up in coke
control and try to push the message that
I am they make up these long and strange
conspiracy theories about how I'm an
indentured servant in China and maybe
that's why I pretend to love it here all
the while they expose the reality
they hate China so much that they
searched desperately for answers to the
question how can da Wong actually love
China I've been a science geek and I've
been a world traveler rarely have I met
someone with a life like mine but it's
not something to be proud of just my
experience haters can't fathom the depth
they're dealing with do they know what
it takes to successfully resist
Scientology (Dianetics)indoctrination from
childhood to live on the streets eating
out of trash cans for years could they
survive the violence and pain
I don't think so jail is not fun but
from what I hear prisons even worse I've
known a few people that went in all
those years I was squirming in my cocoon
there's one thing that was certainly
changing my country when it comes to
prisons in 1984 the US began formally
privatizing prisons at that time the
prison rate was already higher than
modern China China's incarceration rate
has around 120 people for every 100,000
but even back then America was a zealous
glutton for imprisoning of citizens in
1984 the rate was a hundred and eighty

eight which was twice the rate that it
was in 1970 so in fourteen years the
rate of imprisonment doubled in America

but after privatization an unprecedented
explosion in the prison system
sent shockwaves across the world that
number is now 655 per 100,000 and by the
way that hundred thousand includes
children that means of the adults in
America there's about 850 people in jail
or prison for every 100,000 adults
that's much much more than any so-called
communist country that's more than any
socialist country it's more than any
so-called authoritarian state or Sharia
State or anywhere else it's another
example of what it means to have
corporations rule your government the
elite few profiting from the
incarceration of the masses

this is what a prison state looks like
let's put this into perspective if China
for some reason wanted to match the
United States it would have to arrest
and imprison 7.5 million people right
now is that clear enough for you if
China imprisons seven and a half million
more people it will be equal to the
current rate of imprisonment that the
u.s. already has so let's all agree to
pressure the United States to reduce its
prison population
let's get those numbers on the front
page of every news site in the world
it's horrible or is it maybe it's not
that bad
I mean at least we know American prisons
are safe right as usual I just picked
literally a random year Amnesty
International 1997 let's see what they
found
shootings in disputed circumstances
ill-treatment by police and prison
officers including leading to deaths
political prosecutions executions of
people with mental capabilities of quote
a seven-year-old a Mexican forced to
sign a confession in English which he
could not read speak or understand he
was not granted access to a lawyer or a
consulate then he was executed based on
that confession or how about this most
of the foreigners sentenced to death
were denied access to consular
assistance here's a guy who was executed

based on testimony alone the person
making that testimony admitted he was
lying afterwards the prisoner was
executed anyway and I almost forgot to
mention torture
how about this black guy who was
tortured and racially abused he was
kicked and beaten in a cop car with
nightsticks and when he got to the
station they raped him with a stick and
then stuffed it in his mouth they didn't
get him medical attention for hours
he was then hospitalized for two months
due to his injuries you know what I'm
literally not even halfway down this
article I think you get the disgusting
horrible point of this thing
other stats one in 15 teenagers in
juvenile detention said they had sexual
contact with the staff listen to this
testimony published by a Human Rights
Watch about a prisoner in America
I've been sentenced for a DUI offense
that means drinking and driving his
third offense I am a tall white male who
unfortunately has a small amount of
feminine characteristics and is very shy
these characteristics have got me raped

so many times I have no more feelings
physically I have been raped by up to
five black men and two white men at the
same time I've had knives at my head and
throat I fought back and been beat so
hard that I didn't think I'd ever see
straight again one time when I refused
to enter a cell I was brutally attacked
by staff and taken to segregation I was
given a conduct report I explained to
the hearing officer what the issue was
he told me off the record that I should
find a man who would willingly have sex
with me to prevent these things from
happening
I requested protective custody only to
be denied the staff member also said
there was nowhere to run and it would be
best for me to just accept things he
says he probably has AIDS now and quote

I have great difficulty raising food to
my mouth from shaking after nightmares
of thinking too hard on all this I've
laid down without physical fight to be
sodomized to prevent so much damage in
the struggles ripping and tearing though
and not fighting it caused my heart and
spirit to be raped as well something I
don't know if I'll ever forgive myself
for
to be fair to America this kind of thing
happens all over the world but and

here's the key point we cannot control
what happens in them all the time in all
places it's not feasible incarceration
is bad it's to be avoided and that means
you want your country to have less of it
not more so for the love of everything
good
please let some of the non dangerous
criminals go America don't think it's
possible why China did it last in 2015
and they just announced it's happening
again
last time they released over 31,000
people people unlikely to repeat
offenses or who have helped defend the
country in wars and several other
qualifiers have been let out people are
going to leave the hell of prison of
course this news is quite underreported
in the West but it's a big deal we don't
know how many it'll be this time but I
hope to see America follow China's lead
for once instead of the usual excuses
about how China is still bad somehow in
America's right-right-right start with
the non violent criminals who have
broken laws already repealed it's not
that hard unless your two-party system
grid box and endlessly that is but
that's for another video in the meantime
please reform the prison system by
removing this absolutely dystopian
paradigm of profit from torture but even
easier than that let some prisoners out
stop worshipping corporations and start
helping people everyone sorry for the
dark mood in this video but I'm sick of
no one talking about this as if it's a

settled matter America doesn't need to
be the most aggressively totalitarian
prison machine in the world it doesn't
just a few decades ago it wasn't so I
just have to bring it up it's my country
and I want it to do better I'm talking
about this knowing it will be
demonetized on YouTube I'm bringing it
up because it's a horrible version of
hell that we humans have created let's
work to uncreate it slowly and patiently
not to privatize it and make money from
it and hopefully one day we won't need
prisons at all thanks everybody
see
